James Robert Henderson
James Robert Henderson, age 81, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on August 5, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on July 4, 1945, in Hall County, he was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy (née Mills) Henderson.
James proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star for his service. After returning home, he built a successful career as a civil engineer and was instrumental in several infrastructure projects across Northeast Georgia.
He was a devoted member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church and served on the city council for 12 years. James had a deep love for fishing on Lake Lanier, woodworking in his garage workshop, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Henderson; his children, Michael Henderson (Amy) and Susan Garrett (Mark); five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Henderson.
Service Information
Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Gainesville Memorial Gardens, 1234 Memorial Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501. A reception will follow at the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
